US supports India’s membership in Nuclear Suppliers Group, says Nikki Haley

US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Nikki Haley has said, India and US will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder to maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region in the coming years.

Ms Haley was speaking on advancing India-US relations in New Delhi today. She said, the relationship between the two countries has grown from indifference and mutual suspicion to friendship and partnership.

She said, the US supports India’s membership in Nuclear Suppliers Group as it is a nuclear state which is widely respected.

Ms Haley said, India is in midst of remarkable economic surge and the two countries are looking for increased trade and investment.

On terrorism, the envoy said, the US values Pakistan as a partner but it cannot tolerate the country becoming a haven for terrorists and hope to see a change.

On China, Ms Haley said, the US seeks to have productive relationship with China. She said, however, their expansion in the region without respect for rights unlike India will limit their relationship with the US.
