US asserts that North Korea will receive relief from sanctions only if it takes solid steps for denuclearisation

The United States has said, North Korea will receive any sanctions relief only when it demonstrates verifiable and irreversible steps to denuclearisation.

Defence Secretary Jim Mattis made the comments at a security conference in Singapore today ahead of a planned summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Mr Mattis said, it is vital that the international community keeps UN Security Council sanctions in place for now.

South Korean and Japanese Defence ministers also attended the meeting. South Korean Defence Minister Song Young-moo said, at this moment, Seoul is steadfastly committed to strengthening even further the defence co-operation with Pyongyang as the best means to preserving peace.
