Pakistan interior minister injured in assassination bid

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal was injured today in an assassination attempt, when an unidentified man opened fire at him in Punjab province, police said.

He was hit by a bullet on his right shoulder in the attack in his native Narowal’s Kanjrur Tehsil after he addressed a rally.His condition is stated to be out of danger.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the attack on 59-year old Minister. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif described the incident as an “assassination attempt”.
The attacker, who was arrested after he was about to fire a second shot, has been identified as 21-year old Abid Hussain, belonging to the Tehreek-e-Labbaik. Federal Information Minister Marrium Aurengzeb also said this politics of hatred” should be stopped now.
Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto and others have condemned the attack.<><><>
