Further Western attacks on Syria would bring chaos to world affairs: Russian President Vladimir Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that further Western attacks on Syria would bring chaos to world affairs. In a statement, Kremlin said, Mr Putin has stressed that if such actions continue in violation of the UN Charter, this will inevitably lead to chaos in international relations.

The statement also said, Mr Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani have reaffirmed mutual co-operation on issues involving Syria following US-led missile strikes against the country last week. In a telephonic conversation, both leaders condemned the military attack and said the action has seriously damaged the prospects for a political settlement in Syria.

The conversation came after Mr Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed during a phone call to make efforts to find a political solution in Syria.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley has said, the US would today announce new economic sanctions aimed at companies that were dealing with equipment related to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s alleged chemical weapons use.

Responding to Ms Haley’s remarks, Deputy Head of the Defence Committee of Russia’s upper house of Parliament, Evgeny Serebrennikov said, Moscow is ready for the penalties. He said the sanctions will do more damage to the US and Europe.

US, France and Britain launched a missile attack on Saturday targeting three chemical weapons facilities in Syria in retaliation for a suspected poison gas attack in Douma the 7th of this month. The Western countries blame Syrian President for the attack that killed dozens of people. The Syrian government and its ally Russia have denied any involvement.
