India has taken note of strikes in Syria; closely following the situation: MEA Spokesperson

India has taken note of the strikes in Syria and is closely following the situation.

Responding to queries regarding the strikes, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Ravesh Kumar said the alleged use of chemical weapons, if true, is deplorable.

India has called for an impartial and objective investigation by the OPCW to establish the facts and urged all parties to show restraint and to avoid further escalation in the situation.

The Spokesperson said the matter should be resolved through dialogue and negotiations, and on the basis of the principles of the UN Charter and in accordance with international law.

Mr Kumar expressed hope that the long drawn suffering of the people of Syria will come to an end soon.
