Abe, Trump agree to raise pressure on North Korea

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Trump have agreed to strengthen bilateral ties to increase international pressure on North Korea.

The two leaders spoke over phone this morning after Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner won Lower House elections. Trump described Abe as a strong leader and offered congratulations on his winning strong public support.

Abe replied that although the election was tough, he stressed the need to put as much pressure as possible on North Korea under the Japan-US alliance in order to make Pyongyang change its policy.

Mr. Trump is scheduled to visit Japan on the 5th of next month. It will be his first visit since taking office.

The two leaders agreed to discuss ways to address North Korea during Trump’s visit to Japan.
