Sri Lankan Navy rescues 7 Indian crew members of Maldives bound cargo ship

Sri Lankan Navy has said, it rescued seven Indian crew members of a cargo ship which was bound to Maldives. Navy spokesman Lankana Dissanayake told AIR correspondent that the cargo ship named ‘Maria Irudiyam’ was sailing from Tuticorin to Maldives when it encountered a problem last night.

He said, the crew members were rescued initially by a Sri Lankan fishing boat, 65 nautical miles off the Galle coast in Sri Lanka and handed over to Navy. The spokesman said, the crew have been brought safely to Galle today and they will be handed over to Indian High Commission in Colombo.
