20 dead, over 70 wounded in Afghan police centre attack

In Afghanistan, 20 people were killed and over 70 wounded in a suicide bombing targeting a police training centre attached to the headquarters in Gardez, the capital of Paktia province.

The deputy governor, Abdul Wali Sahee, said more than 20 people have been killed and over 70 wounded in the attack. Local media said police chief for Paktia province, Toryalai Abdyani, was also killed in today’s deadly suicide bombing in Gardez City.

The incident happened shortly after 8.30 am local time. Security officials said two vehicles were used in the attack – one truck bomb and one Humvee ‘bomb’ – on the police training college.

Security officials also said two vehicles, a truck and a Humvee, were used in the suicide bombing targeting Paktia police training college.

According to local media, both police personnel and civilians are among the victims.

It said clashes between security forces and insurgents are going on and the area has been cordoned off. Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
