New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Shane Watson, who could make no impact whatsoever in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has said that he would want to return to the tournament under some capacity next season.
Watson, who has been a part of the IPL since 2008, had a forgettable campaign this year where he scored just 67 runs and picked four wickets from seven matches.
When asked if the right-hander will return to the League next season, Watson said, “In some capacity, yes.”
While Watson added that he still had the desire to continue playing cricket, he added that he would like to take up coaching role in future.
“I haven’t set myself a specific time period, it’s more about how it evolves. There may be a time when hopefully I get a chance to coach somewhere and it just takes over from my playing days. I still love playing. I have the burning desire to perform well and contribute to a team getting better. But at some stage, there is going to be a point where I know it is going to be a transition into hopefully be able to coach. I love to help people out so it will be nice to be able to coach, I’m not sure how or when, but hopefully it comes through soon,” he said.
Not to forget, Watson was named as the Player of the Season in 2008, where he scored 472 runs en route to the Rajasthan’s title winning run and claimed 17 wickets.
One of the best all-rounders in the tournament, Watson was bought for a whopping Rs 9.5 crore by RCB last season, and he justified the price tag by scoring 179 runs and picking 20 wickets in 16 games.
The 35-year-old also thanked the fans for their support despite RCB’s dismal show in IPL 2017.
“Whether that was doing incredibly well last year or this year when we weren’t doing well, but everywhere we went, obviously here at Chinnaswamy, and other parts around India, the support Royal Challengers get is nothing compared to what I’ve experienced before,” he added.
With one match remaining, RCB registered just two wins and a draw from 13 matches in the tenth edition.
The injury-hit franchise had a forgettable campaign as Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Watson himself struggled for runs throughout the season.
