WATCH: Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina loses his wicket in shameful fashion to Pat Cummins

New Delhi: Days after he was named as one of the five standby players to the 15-man Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, the Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina played a horrible shot to get himself out against Delhi Daredevils in their IPL match on Wednesday.

Put into bat by the visiting captain Zaheer Khan at Kanpur’s Green Park, hosts lost opener Dwayne Smith early. Thus came in-form skipper in the centre, but he lasted only five balls, scoring six runs with the help of a boundary.

The 30-year-old lost his wicket in shameful manner, to Pat Cummins. Raina tried to play a lofted shot after making some room, but he played the shot late, which left him exposed. Result was a shocking sight of tournament’s all-time leading scorer walking back, with stumps strewn all over the ground.

On Monday, the BCCI selectors overlooked Raina — long considered as India’s limited-overs specialist — during the selection of the 15-member squad which will defend the Champions Trophy title in England next month.

But, he however was named as a standby, along with Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Dinesh Karthik and Shardul Thakur.
