WATCH: Jaydev Unadkat reveals 12-year-old’s hand in his IPL hat-trick feat

New Delhi: The Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who became the third bowler to take a hat-trick in the 2017 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), revealed the secret behind his magical spell.

Defending a low total of 148 against the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) last Saturday, Pune bowlers came to the party taking wickets at regular intervals.

But the star of the match was Unadkat, the 25-year-old from Porbandar. The Left-arm medium pacer finished with figures of 4-1-30-5, which included a perfect final over.

After taking the wickets of Yuvraj Singh and Naman Ojha in the 18th over, Unadkat conjured up a 0,W (Bipul Sharma),W (Rashid Khan),W (Bhuvneshwar Kumar),0,0 in the last over, to set up the win.

A day after the match, Unadkat shared a video on Instagram, revealing the secret behind his success. “So here’s the bowling advice I got that led to the hat-trick yesterday,” he wrote.

Unadkat was one of several Supergiant players – including skipper Steve Smith and South African Faf du Plessis – to visit the APSS School in Pune on April 28 for a meet-and-greet with students.

During the visit, he met Omkar Pawar, a 12-year-old boy who shared advice with the left-arm bowler on how to take a hat-trick.

As seen in the video, the boy went extra length to help Unadkat ‘understand’ the tricks of bowling in hugely demanding T20 leagues like the IPL. Pawar also seemed to suggest Unadkat the importance cross-seam deliveries, as he showed how to hold the cherry in a vividly animated style.

Well, it seemed that Pawar’s words of wisdom have helped the Pune bowler to achieve his goal.

RPS won the match by 12-runs, with Unadkat picking up the Man of the Match award.
