IPL 2017, Match 50: The Gujarat Lions vs Delhi Daredevils – Players to watch out for!

New Delhi: What an irony! Last time when the Gujarat Lions visited the capital to face Delhi Daredevils in a do-or-die situation, the latter grabbed a stunner to keep their race to the play-offs alive. But tonight, it will be a a totally different story. Both the sides are already ousted, the two franchises will play for pride at Green Park, Kanpur.

Quite a contrast! In the previous season, the Lions played their last two matches as part of a formality only, having already qualified for the play-offs. But presently, they are bearing the agony of being on the other side of the table, playing for pride, with just two games left on their fixture.

Delhi, on the other hand, have traveled around a circle only to return to the same point, where they were before. A brilliant start, raising high hopes then stumbling down each stairs as the bruised Daredevils settle at seventh on the table. Technically, hope was still alive for Zaheer Khan and his army, but Sunrisers Hyderabad crumbled their last remaining hope when they defeated Mumbai Indians to stay at fourth with 15 points.

As for this match, Gujarat will surely look to avenge the bitter humiliation they faced at Feroz Shah Kotla when Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson dented their massive target of 209.

Here are the players to look out for tonight…

The Gujarat Lions

Ishan Kishan: The 18-year-old lad from Patna has been a sure delight to watch in Gujarat’s struggling campaign this season. Aggressive form ball one, the opening batsman has the ability and did provide his team with steady opening grips on quite a few occasion. So much so, that even his opening partner Dwayne Smith was happy to start off the innings alongside him.

Dinesh Karthik: The wicket-keeper batsman has been playing varied roles for the Gujarat Lions in the middle-order. From scoring quick runs to stabilizing the innings, the 31-year-old has everything for the team. And fittingly, he has been named as one of the stand-byes for the Indian squad, which is defending the ICC Champions Trophy.

Delhi Daredevils

Rishabh Pant: 209 was the target set by the Lions at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. All that could be speculated then, was that Daredevils have lost the game. But a brutal innings from Rishabh Pant decimated the visiting team’s bowling attack. Even Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter to admit that it was the best innings he has ever seen in IPL.

Pat Cummins: Imagine a ball thrown to you at 148kmph! Scared? Well, that is what one will see when this Aussie international paces up for his deliveries. However, it has been a rather dicey season for Pat, but with still three games in Delhi’s pocket, much can be expected form the Australian.
