WATCH: Kings XI Punjab’s Sandeep Sharma fined for angry outburst against umpire during KXIP vs GL match

Mohali: Kings XI Punjab premier pacer Sandeep Sharma was on Monday fined 50 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpires decision during his teams Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Gujarat Lions at I.S. Bindra Stadium here.

In the fifth over of the Gujarat Lions innings on Sunday, Sandeep decided to bowl from round-the-wicket. While Sandeep bowled his delivery, the umpire called it a no-ball as he believed that the bowler did not inform him about the change.

While Ishan Kishan worked the ball straight to mid-on, much to the disbelief of the bowler, umpire Nand Kishore immediately signalled for a no-ball. The decision left both Sandeep as well as skipper Glenn Maxwell furious. The Australian all-rounder was also seen exchanging a few heated words with the umpire.

Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and accepted the sanction, as such there was no need for a formal hearing.

For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.

After posting 189/3, Punjab bowlers failed to step up to the occasion as Gujarat romped home by six wickets with two deliveries to spare. With this result, their chances of qualifying for the play-offs took a major hit.

Also considering the fact that both Hashim Amla and David Miller have left for national duties, Maxwell’s men need to pull off a miracle to qualify for the play-offs.
