MUMBAI INDIANS

Over 16 | Score 155/3 | Hardik 0 (1) ; Pollard 42 (24)

Rabada now for his third over now. First delivery, length, angling to the leg side as Pollard flicks it down square-leg for a boundary. Third ball, shorter, once again seaming to the leg side as Rohit pulls it hard, but mistimes it as the ball balloons off the top-edge to Mishra at short fine leg.

RG Sharma c Mishra b Rabada 10 (6b)

And after that short time-out, Hardik Pandya walks along with Pollard to the pitch. Seven runs already off the five deliveries bowled, plus that big wicket.

Over 15 | Score 148/2 | Rohit 10 (5) ; Pollard 36 (20)

And a sudden change of attack to Zaheer Khan now. Field is also set for slower deliveries. Three singles off the first half of the over. Fifth ball, around the wicket with a slower delivery, well wide off the off as Pollard with a pre-meditated scoop gets a touch of the lower outside edge to put it high over the keeper for a boundary.

Over 14 | Score 139/2 | Rohit 8 (3) ; Pollard 29 (16)

Mishra starts off with his final over now. First ball, fuller and spins outside as Pollard rocks back to put it over long-off boundary. Six! And then again! Similar delivery as Pollard sends it downtown on one knee for a humongous six. 17 off the over.

Over 13 | Score 122/2 | Rohit 5 (2) ; Pollard 15 (13)

And Corey Anderson introduced now to change things in favour of Delhi, but nothing seems to work against Simons. Second delivery, cutter, slow as Simons puts it over square-leg for a six. Third ball, similar delivery, different line as Simons puts it straight to Rabada at short fine leg as Daredevils get the big Fish. What a smile on Anderson’s face! Absolutely delightful for the home team. Fans definitely with a sigh of relief.

LMP Simmons c Samuels b Anderson 66 (43b)

Skipper Rohit Sharma at the pitch now. His first ball, cutter, slow again as he drifts the pace down backward point for a boundary.

Over 12 | Score 109/1 | Simons 60 (41) ; Pollard 13 (9)

And after a real expensive first over, Pat Cummins returns for his second over now. Fourth ball, length, angling way to the leg side as Simons shifts to ramp it over long-on boundary for a six. 100 up for MI. 12 off the over.

Over 11 | Score 97/1 | Simons 50 (37) ; Pollard 12 (7)

Mishra in for his third over now. Single drived down mid-on off the second delivery and Simons gets his first fifty this season on the day of his season’s debut. Third delivery, fuller, spinning off as Pollard sends it sailing downtown for a six. Fifth ball and Pollard does it yet again. Mistimes it, but the shot had power and it does enough to carry it over the boundary.

Over 10 | Score 84/1 | Simons 49 (35) ; Pollard 0 (3)

And Shami continues into his second over. Three dot balls to start off with and then a boundary. Length, off as Simons shovels it over mid-on for a four. Good over though- just five runs conceded.

Over 9 | Score 79/1 | Simons 44 (30) ; Pollard 0 (2)

And pace-spin mix-match continues with Amit Mishra yet again. Three runs dug out between the wickets off the first half of the over. Fourth ball, googly and Parthiv bamboozled as the ball spins past to the off and Pant doing the remaining. Parthiv was looking for the biggy over long-on, but ended up being stumped out.

PA Patel st Pant b Mishra 25 (22b)

And up the order, it is Kieron Pollard now at crease.

Over 8 | Score 76/0 | Simons 43 (29) ; Parthiv 23 (18)

And they are back to pace attack as Shami paces in for his first over. First delivery, back of the length, off as Simons cuts it down point for a boundary. Bad way to kick start the over for Delhi. Fourth delivery, too short not too wide as Simons cuts it down cover for a boundary. 10 alraedy off the four deliveries now.

Over 7 | Score 65/0 | Simons 33 (25) ; Parthiv 22 (17)

And with all the pace attack failing to do the damage, Zaheer brings in some spin. Amit Mishra now into his first over. Just five off the over.

Over 6 | Score 60/0 | Simons 31 (21) ; Parthiv 20 (15)

And it is Pat Cummins to bowl the last over of power-play. His first over. First ball, short, angling off as Parthiv pulls hook over backward square-leg as Rabada chases down, misses the catch, but saves the boundary. Brilliant from the youngster. Just a single off it. Second delivery, length to the off as Simons cuts it off his back-foot over cover for a boundary. Fourth ball, short, angling in to the leg side though as Parthiv pull it over to fine leg for a boundary. 50 up for MI and for the opening pair. Fifth delivery, length, seaming off as Parthiv cuts it down point for another boundary. Last ball, glances off Parthiv’s pad to whistle down to the boundary. 19 off the over.

Over 5 | Score 41/0 | Simons 27 (19) ; Parthiv 11 (11)

Zaheer Khan returns for his third over now. First ball, slower and shorter as Simons hovers it over square-leg for a six. Utilises the short field. Mumbai is ceratinly happy that the man who replaced Buttler has lived up the expectation uptil now. 10 off the over.

Over 4 | Score 31/0 | Simons 19 (16) ; Parthiv 9 (8)

Pace attack contin ues with Rabada back in for his second over. Second delivery, short and off as Simons shimming down little, pulls it hard over long-on for a maximum. And he goes again, but blockes in the deep. Angling more in as Simons charges out to tap it over mid-on. Finally gets the boundary. Short, off as Simons cuts it over backward point for a four. Rabada needs some time to breathe as Zaheer gives him some assistance.

Over 3 | Score 18/0 | Simons 6 (10) ; Parthiv 9 (8)

And it is Zaheer Khan back into the attack. Starts off with the knuckle ball and a huge appeal to follow. Got the slight inside edge and thus the denial from the umpire. Just four singles off the five deliveries. All slower deliveries with much swing and control. And off the last delivery comes the first boundary.

Over 2 | Score 10/0 | Simons 4 (7) ; Parthiv 4 (5)

And it is the young Kagiso Rabada to take the new ball for the second over. Three quick singles off the first half of the over. And then comes the wide just milimetres past the leg side. Zaheer sheding in some experience on to the youngster. Another good over to see- seven off it.

Over 1 | Score 3/0 | Simons 2 (4) ; Parthiv 1 (2)

And it is one more chance for Delhi to continue with their fairy-tale run to the play-offs spot as they take on mighty Mumbai Indians at their home ground. Zaheer Khan returns after that hamstring injury to start off with the attack. For Mumbai, Jos Buttler is injured as Lendl Simons replaces him as the opener.

Two dot balls to start off with and then comes two singles. Just three off the over. All the deliveries have been slower, circling around 120.

Table toppers travel to national capital for the return leg of the Delhi Daredevils-Mumbai Indians fixture of the 2017 Indian Premier League. Today’s match holds special importance for the Daredevils as a defeat could well derail their play-off hopes.

Delhi need to win at least three of their remaining four games to stay in contention. For Indians, it’s more about consolidation, and also, setting records right in Delhi. They last won in Delhi in 2011.

In the first leg, Rohit Sharma’s Indians won the match at Wankhede Stadium by 14 runs despite scoring only 142 runs. Their bowlers rescued the team. But Delhi also found heroes in two South Africans Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris, who scored 44 and 52 runs in that painstaking defeat.

Delhi are likely to miss Zaheer Khan again. There’s no update on the inspirational skipper’s fitness, and in his absence, Karun Nair will continue to lead the side. Besides, there’s no certainty that Morris will play. The Protea allrounder sat out of the previous match, against Gujarat Lions, which they won by seven wickets.

For the visitors, there’s no such worries even though they too have injury concerns. Both Harbhajan Singh and Krunal Pandya are injured. But Mumbai probably got the biggest pool of players, and it was evident from their last outing against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, which they won by five wickets.
