IPL 2017: Sunil Gavaskar slams Virat Kohli, asks RCB captain to ‘look himself in the mirror’

New Delhi: After yet another dismal outing, Virat Kohli became a subject of ridicule with many slamming the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain for everything that befell the team.

But one criticism which stood out was from Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar. The former India captain was irate, and not happy with the talented Delhi batsman’s performance so far in the 2017 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).

After leading the national team to series of wins, Kohli was expected the lead RCB from the front. But the 28-year-old has so far failed, to say the least. His highest score of the season is 64, against the Gujarat Lions last month.

And yesterday, Kohli could score only six runs against Kings XI Punjab. He was castled by Sandeep Sharma while trying to play an expansive shot, coming down the pitch.

The skipper’s shot selection shocked Gavaskar. The legend, always known for his brilliant choice of words, asked Kohli to “look himself in the mirror” in yesterday’s post post-match analysis for the official broadcaster.

“First thing he should be doing is look himself in the mirror. The shot he played (against KXIP) wasn’t exactly a great shot. The shot he played at Eden Gardens (against KKR) wasn’t a great shot,” Gavaskar said.

For the record, in the last season, Kohli scored 973 runs with four hundreds to become the leading scorer.

Gavaskar also criticised the way other RCB batsmen got out in the match.

“Apart from (Chris) Gayle, who was deceived by late movement, Virat went for that big six shot, AB de Villiers went for that big six shot, Mandeep Singh, having settled down, went for the big shot. So, there you are,” he said.

RCB, which lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final last year, are now languishing at the bottom of the table with five points from 12 matches.
