WATCH: Gujarat Lions’ Suresh Raina consoles Rishab Pant after he misses out on maiden ton in DD vs GL IPL match by three runs

New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils batsman Rishab Pant played one of the most entertaining knocks in the history of Indian Premier League on Thursday night. Up against Gujarat Lions, Pant demolished the bowlers with a blitzkrieg 43-ball 97 which stunned Suresh Raina’s men.

One of the most exciting talents in Indian cricket, Pant once again proved his mettle in the cash-rich tournament with the stupendous knock. Along with Sanju Samson, Pant added a sensational 143-run partnership for the second wicket which took the match away from Lions. While Sanju and Samson were lauded for their brilliant knocks, Raina won the hearts of millions of fans with a touching gesture on field.

Just three runs short of his maiden IPL ton, Pant was offered width by Basil Thampi in the 15th over of the innings. While the left-hander attempted another big stroke, he didn’t time it well and edged a catch into Dinesh Karthik’s gloves. While it was a sign of relief for the Lions camp, Pant looked extremely disappointed after playing that shot. It was then that Raina walked up to him and consoled him:

Delhi’s seven-wicket win against Gujarat was the second-highest chase in the history of IPL and the result not only kept Delhi Daredevils in the race for a playoff spot, but it also knocked Gujarat Lions out of the tournament.

Chasing 209 for victory, Delhi lost the wicket of skipper Karun Nair for 12. It was then that Pant was promoted in the batting order and what followed will be remembered for a very long time. The two youngsters set the IPL on fire with some breathtaking strokes and the entire cricket fraternity hailed their magnificent partnership.

Samson was equally destructive as he struck seven sixes in his 31-ball knock.

Pant was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock which according to Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was one of the best knocks over the last 10 seasons and not just this one.

Delhi, now standing at the sixth spot with eight points from 10 games, will take on Mumbai Indians on Saturday at Feroz Shah Kotla once again.
