IPL 2017: Shakib Al Hasan leaves Kolkata Knight Riders camp for national commitments

Kolkata: At a time when Kolkata Knight Riders need its senior players to pull up their socks, star Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has left the team midway of the tournament. Shakib, who is a vital cog in the KKR line-up, has left for national commitments.

After facing their second defeat in a row against Rising Pune Supergiant, KKR will be without the Shakib’s services for the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) season 10.

The Bangladesh senior pro has so far played just one match for the Men in Purple and will now leave for Ireland on Thursday night for a tri-series in the build-up to next month`s Champions Trophy.

Shakib played a big role when the KKR won the title in 2014 but in the tenth edition, he has played only against Gujarat Lions at home. He scored 1 not out and returned with bowling figures of 0/31 in that match.

With team management sticking with Sunil Narine, Chris Woakes, Colin de Grandhomme and Nathan Coulter-Nile for most of their matches, Shakib did not get a chance to prove his mettle this season.

After a good start to the season, KKR currently are in a spot of bother having lost their last two matches. Highly dependent on their skipper to do most of their scoring, Kolkata are currently ranked second in the points table after seven wins from 11 matches.

The Gautam Gambhir-led side next take on struggling Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday in Bengaluru.
