IND vs AUS: Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah face racial abuse at SCG, Team India lodge complaint

The Indian team management on Saturday lodged a complaint after Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were racially abused from a section of crowd on the third day of the ongoing Test between India and Australia. As per a report in Cricbuzz the incident took place over the second and third day of the match.

The incident came to light towards the end of day’s play, as skipper Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin along with other senior members discussed the matter with the onfield umpires Paul Wilson and Paul Reiffel. 

The discussion took place for almost five minutes as players were seen discussing the matter with the umpires and security officials at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

This is not the first incident of racism that has emerged during the India-Australia series. In 2007, Andrew Symonds and Harbhajan Singh were caught in a similar incident, where the latter was accussed of calling Symonds a monkey. The tensions had then heated up between the two sides both on and off the field. The Indian off-spinner was also handed a three-Test ban but he was eventually cleared of the charge and the ban was overturned.
