IPL 10: Sanju Samson's brilliant 102-run knock impresses tournament's first centurion Brendon McCullum

New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils registered their first win of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 as a result of Sanju Samson’s maiden century. The 22-year-old, who is often criticised for throwing his wicket away, silenced the critics with a sensational knock.

Sanju came to the crease in the second over itself after Deepak Chahar dismissed Aditya Tare, who was caught behind. Samson scored two boundaries on the off side in the same over and the shots showed he was timing the ball really well.

The youngster continued to find boundaries and changed gears towards the death overs and reached the three-figured mark with a six.

While wishes poured in from all corners, Brendon McCullum, who set the tournament on fire by hitting a century in the first match in 2008, was also bowled over by the wicketkeeper batsman’s knock.

“I love watching Sanju Samson play cricket! Hes some talent!” Baz tweeted.

Sanju’s Daredevils team-mates were also full of praise for his first IPL ton.

At the post-match ceremony, Sanju thanked Daredevils coach Rahul Dravid for his valuable support.

“I am very happy to play this knock and very happy that the team won the match,” Man of the Match Samson said at the presentation ceremony.

“I am blessed to be a part of this team, working with Rahul sir (team mentor) and the rest of the support staff. I am in a very good space of mind and the people here have always backed me and encouraged me.
