Virender Sehwag hails India's 2011 World Cup win under MS Dhoni as the best moment of his generation

New Delhi: Batting great Virender Sehwag has hailed India’s 2011 World Cup win under Mahendra Singh Dhoni as “the best memory for this generation.”

Six years ago, India consigned the heart-break of 2003 World Cup defeat to Australia by lifting the prestigious trophy at legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s homeground in Mumbai.

Skipper Dhoni finished off the chase in style, hitting a huge six in the penultimate over, bowled by Nuwan Kulasekara.

Sehwag and his opening partner Tendulkar failed to give India the much needed start, but Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli steadied the Indian innings, then Dhoni arrived to finish things off, in style.

Gambhir made 97 off 122 balls, and held the innings together even as Kohli and Yuvraj Sing made fleeting contribution.

Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91 off 79 balls, once again, proving why the Ranchi man is regarded as the best finisher in cricket.

The win finally ended India’s long wait for the World Cup, which was last won by Kapil’s Devils in 1983. It happened when Sehwag was only ten years old, and he rightly hail their 2011 win as the best of his generation.
