IPL 2017: Parvez Rasool, Washington Sundar get call up as possible replacement for injured RPS bowler Ravichandran Ashwin

New Delhi: Amid reports of ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin missing the 10th edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) due to sports hernia, the Pune-based franchise has called upon 17-year-old Tamil Nadu lad Washington Sundar and Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Parvez Rasool as possible replacement.

The news came out after the Times of India dug out from their reliable sources at Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) that the two all-rounders would under-go a trial session on Monday in Pune.

The 28-year-old from Kashmir stands out from the two in terms of experience. Having represented his country in the recent T20I series against England this year and on numerous other ocassions, Rasool is the favourite. He also comes with IPL experince.

However, Rasool hasn’t had much to display from all his opportunities. He even went unsold in this year’s IPL auction. Sundar, on the other hand, will be confident after his consistent performances in Vijay Hazare and Deodhar Trophy tournaments.

Rasool and Washington are expected to attend a trial with Pune tomorrow.

Rasool has experience, while Washington is young and impressive. Both have been amongst the wickets in the recently concluded List A tournaments and that has probably earned them this opportunity,” revealed the source.

Earlier, there were reports of Steve Smith convincing franchise owners to replace Ashwin with Aussie team-mate Nathan Lyon.

“It could well be skipper Steve Smith’s call if he wants to replace the best Indian spinner with the best Australian spinner. If that happens, it will be interesting to see if Lyon has the same impact as Ashwin,” a source revealed it to Sportskeeda.
