Sourav Ganguly astonished seeing two oversees spinners dominate India at home

New Delhi: India’s struggle against the Aussies has invited widespread criticism from all around the globe. While some are lauding Australia’s preparation and determination to beat the hosts in their own game, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is amazed seeing two spinners – Steve O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon – dominate in Indian sub-continent with such authority.

“Their two spinners are creating pressure from both ends. It’s a strategy which was used by Team India previously. But I’ve never seen Aussie spinners putting so much pressure,” Ganguly said at the launch of former Bengal speedster Shib Shankar Paul’s academy in Bagha Jatin.

Aussie rookie leftarm spinner Steve O’Keefe’s 12/70 in the first Test in Pune was the best figures by a visiting spinner on Indian soil as India faced a 333-run humiliation.

Over to the Bengaluru Test, and it was offspinner Nathan Lyon’s 8/50 shot out India for 189 in the first Innings as the home team are in danger of losing their first Test series since their 1-2 defeat to England in December 2012.

Dada had predicted a 4-0 whitewash by India ahead of the start of the series and is understandibly astonished as the series proceeds match-by-match.

While Australia won the first tie convincingly, they are in driving seat in the ongoing second Test in Bengaluru too.
