Mitchell Johnson says Virat Kohli's maturity the prime reason behind his rise to absolute top

New Delhi: There would hardly be any past or present cricketer who has not been impressed with Virat Kohli’s rise in the recent years. Ahead of Australia’s 4-match Test series with India, ex-Aussie speedster Mitchell has credited the Indian captain’s maturity for his rise to absolute top of cricket.

Johnson, who had plenty of heated exchanges of words on-pitch with Kohli during India’s tour to Down Under in 2014, said “Now Virat has been extremely mature. He has been more calm and quite while batting.”

Virat, who sent flying kisses towards Australian bowlers after hitting a ton during the series, seems like a completely changed man to Mitchell as far as his approach is concerned. “Now I see he does not look ecstatic even after scoring a century. His maturity has guided to reach the highest level of the game.”

Johnson further extolled the Indian run-machine saying, “He is amazingly superb in all three formats of the game nowadays. I am also astonished to have watched the regality in his batting against both the spinners as well as against the fast bowlers also.

“I hope our bowlers have had an intense preparation on and off the pitch about how to find out weakness of Kohli. They must have to do it during the Test series also. Otherwise Kohli will be as destructive as he has been against our bowlers also,” he added.

Indian captain Virat Kohli will be back in action on February 23 in Pune, as hosts take on Australia in 1st match of the 4-Test series.
