New Delhi: Virat Kohli, the man in a magnificent form, is currently any bowler’s nightmare. The Indian skipper has looked in sublime form against all opponents across formats recently. Scoring centuries now seems like a child’s play for him.
Captain Kohli is evolving into a long innings batsman, which was evident after he slammed four double centuries in four consecutive Test series. After breaking Sir Don Bradman’s record of scoring double tons in four successive test series, the Delhi-born cricketer looks all set to create more records in the upcoming four-match series against Australia.
Kohli, who has scored 1276 runs against Australia so far in 12 Tests, can move ahead of former Indian Test captains. The flamboyant batsman is 28 and 127 runs short of breaking records of Dilip Vengsarkar and Sourav Ganguly who scored 1304 and 1403 runs respectively against the Aussies.
If the Indian skipper continues his terrific form, he will take over the records of Alan Border and Sunil Gavaskar as well. Kohli needs to score 291 runs to move past both Border (1567) and Gavaskar (1550). If he scores 462 runs in eight innings, Kohli will take over Virender Sehwag’s record of 1738 runs.
While Steve Smith’s men would be hoping to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli and co will be hoping to continue their winning form and repeat a 4-0 whitewash in the series.
The first match will be played from 23rd February to 27th February at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
