Ricky Ponting believes new Perth pitch will give Australia an edge over India in second Test

Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting believes that the hosts definitely enjoy an edge over India on a new-look Perth pitch ahead of the second Test between the two sides which is all set to take place in Perth on December 14.

“I think Perth will definitely suit our guys a lot more than the Indian players, but the Aussies need to bounce back pretty quickly,” said Ponting.

“They played pretty poorly this week and got within thirty runs. And that’s not saying India played at their absolute best either, but they’re absolutely capable.”

“There’s some positives to take from it but they’ve also got to take a good hard look at what they’ve done through this game and make sure they do it a lot better,” he added.

Ponting also believes that the hosts should field an unchanged playing XI for the second Test despite a 31-run loss in the opening Test at Adelaide on Monday.

Terming any changes as nothing short of an overreaction by the team management, Ponting added that there was also a risk of uncertainty creeping into the minds of the players.

“I’d have to leave it like it is,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.

“They decided that it was their strongest line-up going into this week and opinion shouldn’t change on the back of one game,” he added.
