The dismissal took place in the opening over of the Australian innings which was bowled by fast-bowler Ishant Sharma. Sharma bowled an excellent delivery which was pitched up and nipped back into the right-hander.

Finch failed to read the delivery correctly and attempted to play an ambitious drive which was never an appropriate shot. The 32-year-old batsman took a stride forward, leaving his stumps exposed which were sent cartwheeling following an inside edge.

India were dismissed for 250 off the first delivery of the day’s play with Australia failing to pace their innings well in return.

The hosts ended the day’s play at 191/7 following an unbeaten half-century by rookie Travis Head, despite losing a flurry of wickets at crucial intervals.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the Indian bowlers picking 3 wickets. He further enjoyed quality support from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami who delivered a disciplined performance with the ball.
