Asia Cup 2018: India ease past Bangladesh to win by 7 wickets

A clinical all-round performance by India. Rohit Sharma continued to lead from the front with another commanding half-century. He hit 83 runs off 104 balls to steer India to a convincing 7-wicket victory over Bangladesh. Earlier, a disciplined show by the Indian bowlers restricted Bangladesh to 173 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (4/29), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/32) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/37) picked up wickets at regular intervals as Bangladesh batsmen succumbed to the mounting pressure. Rohit Sharma rotated his bowlers well and kept the opposition in check with his attacking field changes. Bangladesh did consolidate on the back of a 66-run partnership between Mehidy Hasan (42) and skipper Mashrafe Mortaza (26) but fell 40/50 runs short of a competitive total.

Follow the highlights from the match:

# Brief score:

*India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets with 82 balls to spare

* India 174 /3 (Rohit Sharma 83 (104), Shikhar Dhawan 40 (47))

*Bangladesh 173/10 (Mehidy Hasan 42 (50) / Ravindra Jadeja 4/29, Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/32, Jasprit Bumrah 3/37)

# Dinesh Karthik is in at number five!

Wicket!! MS Dhoni attempts to finish the match in his signature style but miscues Mortaza’s pitched delivery to Mithun at the cover boundary. Dhoni departs for a 37-ball 33.

Rohit Sharma has been in top-form today. He started cautiously but accelerated to put India on the brink of a victory. As things stand Bangladesh have failed to put up a fight and are giving it away here. India 159/2 after 32 overs, need 15 runs to win.

It is a great opportunity for Dhoni to spend some time in the middle and get some runs on the board. He would want to keep rotating the strike and bring in-form Rohit Sharma at the striker’s end.

# India 117/2 after 25 overs, need 57 runs to win!

# MS Dhoni is in at number four.

# Wicket!! Rubel Hossain strikes. He moves the ball away from Rayudu, who flashes an edge to keeper Mushfiqur Rahim. Rayudu falls for 13, India 106/2!

# Half-century! Skipper Rohit Sharma brings up his 36th ODI fifty with a stunning six over mid-wicket. 63-ball half-century for Sharma.

# Mehidy Hasan has been the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers. He has given away only 38 runs in 10 overs. The spinners are making most of the slow pitch. India, however, are still in a solid position with nine wickets in hand. India 89/1 after 20 overs.

# Ambati Rayudu is in at number three!

# Wicket!! Shikhar Dhawan goes across in an attempt to sweep Shakib but the former gets trapped plumb on the front. Dhawan departs for 40 (47). India 61/ 1!

# India 51/0 in 10 overs.  The Indian openers continue to score at healthy five runs per over. With the required run-rate at 3.09 India are in a comfortable position. Bangladesh, on the other hand, need to pick up wickets if they fancy a chance in this match.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are off to a steady start. Both are happy to take things slow and are trying to bid their time in the middle. India 30/0 after 6 overs.

# Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan open the innings for India.

Brief score:

*India need 174 runs to win

# Mehidy Hasan has batted brilliantly for Bangladesh. He patiently rotated the strike at a run-ball rate in an attempt to consolidate.

# Wicket!!  Mashrafe Mortaza, who had just hit Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two sixes, hands a catch to Jasprit Bumrah at short-fine leg. Mashrafe departs for a 32-ball 26. Bangladesh 167/8!

# Bangladesh 133/7 after 42 overs.

Mashrafe Mortaza (6) and Mehidy Hasan 32* (26) have stitched a small partnership to put up a decent fight but Bangladesh need to accelerate with 8 overs in hand. India, on the other hand, will look to wrap the opposition under 200.

# Bangladesh 101/7!

# Wicket!! Ravindra Jadeja picks up his fourth wicket as Mosaddek Hossain edges a catch to MS Dhoni. What a comeback by Jadeja.

# Bangladesh 101/6 after 33 overs.

Wicket!! Bhuvneshwar Kumar brings the ball back in to trap Mahmudullah on the back-pad. The replays, however, showed a massive inside-edge off the bat but Bangladesh had no review left to challenge the umpire’s call.

The inclusion of Ravindra Jadeja has allowed Rohit Sharma to conserve Kuldeep Yadav and the dangerous Kedar Jadhav for the death overs. The run-rate has dropped to 3.06 per over and Bangladesh are giving it away here. Horrible shot selection by the Bangladeshis at the top have put them in a dangerous situation here. Bangladesh 83/5 after 27 overs.

Bangladesh 65/5 after 18 overs.

India are off to a great start. Both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were clinical with the new ball reducing Bangladesh to 2 wickets down. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim will look to build a partnership and steer Bangladesh to a competitive total.

# Wicket!! Jasprit Bumrah joins the party. He moves the ball away from Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who flashes a catch to Shikhar Dhawan at first slip.  Bangladesh 16/2!

# Wicket!!  Bhuvneshwar Kumar gets the better of Liton Das with a well-directed short-pitched ball as the latter pulls it towards Kedar Jadhav, who takes a stunning running catch in the deep. Bangladesh 15/1!

Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto open the innings for Bangladesh.

# India have won the toss and opt to bowl first.

A high-on-confidence India, who beat arch-rivals Pakistan by eight wickets, eye another convincing performance against Bangladesh. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team, however,  will be wary of the spirited Bangladeshis, who are well-known party spoilers.

Indian seamers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and part-time spinner Kedar Jadhav recorded stunning match figures against Pakistan while Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma starred with the bat. With Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur ruled out of the tourney, a change is on the cards.
