Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow built a massive 189-run stand to put England on top on Day 3 of the second Test at Lord’s.

They have a competitive lead of 123 runs now, which is 16 runs more than India’s first innings score. Kohli cuts a frustrated figure as India need a miracle to turn this match around. # The Indian pace attack has had a great first two sessions. They have consistently bowled at troubling lengths. Shami, was the pick of the Indian bowlers, picking three huge wickets. The angling deliveries are working for India so much so that Ashwin has not bowled a single ball so far. The wicket is assisting pace and is carrying the ball well. However, England are still in a comfortable position and India will have to wrap them for a low score before the end of day’s play. England 142/5 after 35 overs. They lead by 35 runs.

# Wicket!! Buttler’s (24) cameo comes to an end. Shami sticks to the middle and leg stump line and Buttler shuffles forward in an attempt to flick the pitched up delivery over the leg side but the pace beats the batsman and hits him plumb on the pads.

# India bowled brilliantly after a steady start. Ishant Sharma got the better of Alastair Cook (21), Hardik Pandya dismissed the set debutant Ollie Pope for 28 runs and Shami sealed the session for India with two crucial wickets of Joe Root (19) and Keaton Jennings (11).

# Wicket!! What a delivery. Shami pitches it short and the ball dips back in to trap Joe Root plumb on front. Huge wicket for India just before the Lunch break. Root goes for a 53-ball 19.

# Wicket!! Hardik Pandya rips the ball back from the off stump and it skids on to Ollie Pope’s knee-roll. Pope, who was looking good, departs for 28. England 77/3!

# Ollie Pope has spent some time in the middle now. He has batted confidently so far. Skipper Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has not introduced Ravichandran Ashwin yet. He is happy to use Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav.
# England are off to a shaky but steady start. Kuldeep Yadav is into the attack. It will be interesting to see how the English batsmen tackle the wrist spinner.
# Debutant Ollie Pope is in at number four.
# Wicket!! Ishant Sharma strikes. Sharma creates a difficult angle from around the wicket and gets Cook (21) into an awkward position. Cook opens his shoulders and edges the length delivery back to keeper Dinesh Karthik. Perfect start for India. England 32/2!

# Wicket!! Shami makes the first breakthrough for India. He pitches it up and ball skids on trap Jennings plumb on front. Keaton Jennings goes for a review but the impact was in line and the wickets were hitting. Jennings departs for 11. England 28/1.

# The wicket looks good for batting but India could trouble England with swing. However, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma don’t swing the ball as much as the English bowlers. The Indians rely on reverse swing and angling deliveries.

It was Edgbaston all over again as India succumbed to pace and swing on a rain-marred second day. James Anderson got England off to a great start after dismissing both Murali Vijay (0) and KL Rahul (8) early in the innings. Just when India looked like settling in, Cheteshwar Pujara (1) got caught in a mix up with skipper Virat Kohli and the former was run out before heavy rains interrupted the play. The game resumed in the third session and Chris Woakes bowled a dream of a delivery to send off the in-form Virat Kohli for 23.
