India vs England: Jasprit Bumrah unlikely to be fit for Lord’s Test – report

Team India’s comeback plans after a narrow loss in the Edgbaston Test could be dealt a big blow as injured paceman Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be fit for the Lord’s Test, according to a report in Cricketnext.

Bumrah was named in the Indian squad for the first three Tests, despite a fractured thumb, as the selectors had said that he would be considered for the second and third games of the series.

Cricketnext’s report stated that Bumrah still had some time to go before being hundred percent fit. The paceman has been bowling in the nets continuously to stay in shape.

The second Test of the series, which begins on August 9, will be a crucial one as India would want to get even in the series . The tourists won at the historic venue during the last tour in 2014 and they will look to repeat the heroics.

Ishant Sharma, who was the architect of that victory, has been in great form in this series as well. He picked up a five-wicket haul in England’s second innings at Edgbaston, to help the visitors get into a commanding position in the match, only for the batsmen to come up short.

The Indian pacers did well in the first Test but skipper Virat Kohli could do with more consistency from them. Umesh Yadav was wayward with the new ball and that is where someone like Bumrah can be crucial.

The paceman showed in South Africa that he could trouble batsmen with his laser guided precision, something that he relies upon to do well in shorter formats of the game.
