Virat Kohli sends Joe Root off with a ‘kiss’ at Edgbaston – Watch video

When it comes to exuberant celebrations, Virat Kohli is somewhat of a repeat offender. The Indian cricket team skipper is known for his aggressive demeanor on the field and this time, the target was England skipper Joe Root.

Root was in brilliant touch on Day 1 of the first Test match between India and England at Edgbaston and it looked like the right-hander was heading for a brilliant century. However, Kohli had other plans as he completed a brilliant run-out to get rid of Root for 80.

The dismissal was a crucial one for the Indian cricket team at that juncture and Kohli mocked Root by blowing a kiss and mimicking his ‘mic drop’ celebration. Kohli’s ‘mic drop’ gesture was the imitation of Root’s celebration after he scored his second consecutive hundred to clinch the ODI series for the hosts.

While there was a bit of criticism in the English media, opener Keaton Jennings tried to defuse the situation by saying that they were ‘cool’ with Kohli’s celebration.

“Everybody is entitled to celebrate how they want to. He celebrated, and that’s cool,” Jennings told the media after the first day’s play.

England collapsed in the final session, losing six wickets for 67 runs as they limped to the close on 285 for nine on Wednesday.

England, who were 216 for four when Root was dismissed, lost their next four wickets for 27 runs, with spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who ended the day with four wickets, inflicting the bulk of the damage for the visitors.
