Japan became the first Asian team to beat a team from CONMEBOL region at FIFA World Cup. The Blue Samurais beat Colombia 2-1 in Saransk to take home all three points. Colombia were dealt a big blow in the third minute when midfielder Carlos Sanchez was sent off for a deliberate hand ball in the penalty box. Shinji Kagawa made no mistake from 12 yards to put Japan 1-0 up. Colombia equalized before half time after Juan Quintero cleverly placed a free kick.
