The Mumbra police have informed Ishrat Jahan’s mother Shamima Kausar that the round-the-clock security cover provided to her would be withdrawn unless she pays three months dues of Rs 1,723 per day. The police have informed her that she can still avail police protection if she clears the dues and pays the daily fee for future protection.
Shamima has received police protection since 2004, after the alleged fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan by policemen in Gujarat.
The decision to withdraw her security was taken during a security meeting on November 30, 2016.
Sukhada Narkar, PRO for Thane police department said, “Due to less threat perception, we have pulled out the security cover and have also informed Shamima Kausar that if she requires protection she will have to pay the fees.”
“We review security cover of various individuals from time to time and it depends on the threat perception”, said Narkar.
