Vice Presidential Election: 3 of 4 nominations received so far rejected

Three of the four nominations received so far for the August 5 vice-presidential election were rejected on Wednesday.

The filing of papers began on Tuesday with the Election Commission (EC) issuing the notification for the poll.

The nominations of PVSVG Kumar from Andhra Pradesh and of Tej Bahadur Singh and Sarasvati Sharma, both from Uttar Pradesh, were rejected as they did not have the requisite documents, according to the Rajya Sabha website.

The nomination of Vijay Narayan from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, which was filed on Tuesday, was kept aside for scrutiny, it added.

Neither the ruling NDA nor the opposition has announced their candidates for the vice presidential election.

The last date for filing nominations is July 18.

The scrutiny of the papers will be done on July 19 and the last date for withdrawing from the electoral fray is July 21.

Polling, if required, will take place on August 5 and the counting of votes will be taken up the same evening.

The term of incumbent Hamid Ansari, who has held the post for two consecutive terms, comes to end on August 10.
