Supreme Court Extends Redemption Opportunity to Ramdev in Patanjali Advertisements Case

In a significant development, the Supreme Court has granted Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna a week to demonstrate their genuine remorse over the Patanjali advertisements controversy. Despite the duo tendering an “unconditional and unqualified apology” before the apex court, the court emphasized that they are not entirely exonerated from the matter. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi assured the court of his clients’ commitment to taking unilateral steps to rectify their actions.
The court, presided over by Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, underscored the gravity of the situation by summoning Ramdev and Balkrishna to the front of the courtroom. While acknowledging Ramdev’s contributions to yoga, the bench questioned their continued promotion of herbal medicines in defiance of government recommendations and Supreme Court orders. Despite Ramdev’s acknowledgment of potential overzealousness and his expressed contrition, the court remains vigilant, stressing the importance of upholding the law and protecting public health from misleading advertisements.
