Sankar, a 55-year-old panchayat president from Vichur, was apprehended by police in Thanjavur for his alleged role as the mastermind behind the murder of Suman, the husband of AIADMK functionary Vaidegi and vice president of Vichur panchayat. Suman was fatally attacked by a gang in October 2023 near New Manali town.
Following the arrest of eight suspects, one confessed to Sankar’s involvement in orchestrating the crime. The arrest comes after demands for justice from Vaidegi, who protested against her husband’s murder and called for the apprehension of all responsible parties. Sources suggest that the conflict between Sankar and Vaidegi escalated due to grievances over certain irregularities.
