In a brazen attempt to infiltrate one of Pakistan’s key naval air bases in Balochistan province, armed Baloch militants staged an attack that was swiftly thwarted by security forces, resulting in the death of at least six terrorists. The incident occurred on the night of March 25 in Turbat, a volatile district known for its unrest in the sparsely populated Balochistan Province. Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani confirmed that the terrorists targeted the PNS Siddique Naval Air Base from three different sides, but security forces promptly responded, preventing their entry into the premises.
Throughout the night, eyewitnesses reported hearing gunfire and explosions echoing in the area as the clash ensued between the militants and security personnel. Fortunately, no significant damage was inflicted on the airbase or its aircraft, with security forces successfully neutralizing the attackers before they could cause harm to sensitive naval installations. The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, attributing it to its Majeed Brigade, a notorious guerilla cell known for its lethal operations.
This marks the third major assault on security forces and installations in Balochistan this year, with previous attacks also being repelled by security personnel. Despite the challenges posed by Baloch insurgent groups, security forces remain vigilant in their efforts to maintain stability in the region and safeguard critical infrastructure, particularly amidst ongoing tensions surrounding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
