Urgent Appeal to Curb Illegal Sand Mining in Kozhikode

The Kodiyathur grama panchayat in Kozhikode district has raised a distress call to District Collector Snenhil Kumar Singh, seeking immediate intervention to combat rampant illegal sand mining along the Iruvazhinji river banks. President Divya Shibu voiced grave concerns over the environmental impact and safety hazards posed by the illicit activity, urging swift action from authorities.
Despite repeated pleas, the local body asserts that the police have turned a blind eye to intensifying surveillance and taking legal action against the sand mining operations. With an estimated 20 to 25 daily sand loads being illicitly transported and migrant workers aiding the operations, the situation demands urgent attention and stringent enforcement measures to safeguard the community and the environment.
