Parliament Security Breach: 5 Arrested, Hunt On For 1 Other; Oppn Demands Shah’s Statement | What We Know So Far

In a massive security breach that sparked chaos inside the house, two people carrying tear gas canisters jumped into the Lok Sabha chambers from the visitors’ gallery forcing all the members of parliament to flee and move in panic.

The house was immediately adjourned and the Delhi police arrested five out of the six accused believed to be involved in the security breach at the Lok Sabha. All six were known to each other and were staying in a house in Gurugram, they claimed.

Meanwhile, the opposition attacked the BJP MP Prathap Simha, whose authorisation passes were issued to two persons who intruded into the house during the session. The Congress has demanded answers and an official statement from Amit Shah on the parliament security breach.

Parliament Security Breach: What We Know So Far

• The Delhi Police suspected the involvement of six people along with the five who have already been held in the Wednesday security breach of Parliament, PTI reported.
• All six were known to each other and were staying in a house in Haryana’s Gurugram.
• The accused have been identified as Amol Shinde and Neelam — caught outside the Parliament — and Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D — held inside the Lok Sabha chamber. All are in police custody.
• Both the accused, who jumped inside the house were carrying gas canisters, and the house was filled with yellow smoke, parliament visuals suggested.
• No mobile phones have been found on the accused and police are looking for their phones, PTI reported quoted police sources.
• The passes used by the accused to enter the parliament were authorised by Prathap Simha, BJP MP from Mysuru.
• Three passes were issued at the behest of Simha for Wednesday.
• Facing flak, Simha’s office defended the leader and said MPs generally entertain such requests from members of their constituency.
• The entry of visitors inside the Parliament House complex has been suspended.
• Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is likely to write to the Home Ministry seeking a security review of Parliament.
• The Opposition MPs are planning to meet the President of India Droupadi Murmu over the issue.
• The Congress demanded answers from the government and a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah in both houses of Parliament on the “serious security breach” in Lok Sabha.
• AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said the security breach in Lok Sabha is a challenge to the nation’s sovereignty and demanded tough action against the intruders.
• The Trinamool Congress also strongly criticised the central government on Wednesday for the security breach in Parliament.
