In his first big move after taking oath as the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav on Wednesday ordered a ban on the unregulated use of loudspeakers at religious and public places. He also gave instructions to ban the sale of meat in the open.
Addressing the media after his first cabinet meeting, Yadav said, “Today we have taken several discussions during the first Cabinet meeting. We have raised the issue of meat sales in the open and have proposed to bring rules for this, in the Cabinet meeting today.”
As per the order issued by the state secretariat, there is no restriction on regular and controlled (permissible decibel) use.
The order said that regulated loudspeakers will be allowed to operate within prescribed decibel limits, and at prescribed times only, and no action will be taken if loudspeakers are being operated in accordance with the law.
It also cited the Supreme Court’s 2005 judgment banning the use of loudspeakers between 10 pm to 6 am (except in cases of public emergencies) in public places. As per the apex court’s October 28, 2005 judgement, loudspeakers could be permitted to be used till midnight on festive occasions for 15 days a year.
