Madhya Pradesh: 30-year-old Woman Raped in Moving Train, Accused Arrested

The 23-year-old accused allegedly intercepted the woman near the toilet of an air-conditioned empty special train and raped her. The victim managed to escape and informed the GRP at Satna station, following which a team was dispatched to apprehend the man

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped in a moving train in Madhya Pradesh’s Katni district, said an official from the Government Railway Police (GRP).

The incident took place when the woman boarded the Jabalpur-Rewa memu train at Pakaria station between Satna and Katni sections on Sunday evening, reported news agency PTI.

The accused identified as, Pankaj Kushwahaa native of Uttar Pradesh’s Banda and resident of Katni, has been arrested in connection with the incident, said L P Kashyap, Satna GRP station in-charge.

The victim disembarked from her train and entered an air-conditioned coach of a stationary train to use the restroom, quoted Times of India as saying L. P. Kashyap, the in charge of Satna GRP police station.

The 23-year-old accused allegedly intercepted the woman near the toilet of an empty special train and raped her. According to police, the woman also attempted to get off the train at Maihar railway station but was unable to do so.

The victim, then got off at the next station, Satna around 8 PM and informed an on-duty official. The accused sat on a train and left the station before police could attempt to nab him.

With the help of the station master, the train was halted near Kaima railway station. The accused had locked himself in the toilet, and when the train reached Rewa, the lock was broken after a struggle lasting more than three hours, according to the report.

Eventually, he was arrested at around 11:30 PM at Rewa railway station, the official said. As the crime was committed in the jurisdiction of Katni GRP, the case was handed over to them, said an official.
