The woman, identified as Samina, was assaulted by her brother-in-law Javed, a day after the election results were declared on December 4.

A 30-year-old Muslim Woman was allegedly beaten up by her family members over voting for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore during the recent Assembly elections. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the victim along with her two kids at his office on Saturday.

According to a TOI report, the woman, identified as Samina, was assaulted by her brother-in-law Javed, a day after the election results were declared on December 4.

“My family and I were jubilant over the BJP’s victory on December 4. However, this celebration unveiled my vote for BJP instead of Congress, which enraged my brother-in-law, Javed,” the victim was quoted by TOI as saying.

“Initially he hurled abuses, but later Javed physically assaulted me with sticks. He was supported by my husband during the altercation,” she further claimed.

Samina, a resident of Barkheda Hasan village in Sehore, lodged a complaint with the collectorate and police on Friday.

A case was registered against the accused brother-in-law under sections 294, 323, 506, and 34 of the law and police arrested those named in the complaint.

“We received the complaint and arrests have been made in this regard,” SP Sehore Mayank Awasthi was quoted by TOI as saying.

Quoting sources, an NDTV report said Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured Samina of safety and security, who, in turn, told the CM she would vote for the BJP again.

The state went to polls on November 17 and results were declared on December 3. BJP registered a landslide victory in the state by winning 163 out of 230 seats
