Delhi: Leopard Spotted in Sainik Farms; Police, Forest Dept Launch Search Operation

The police have issued an alert.

A team of Delhi Police, Forest Department and Wildlife, and RWA Security guards have been deployed

Panic erupted among people in Delhi’s Sainik Farms after a leopard was spotted in the streets on Saturday. The authorities have alerted locals and asked residents to remain vigilant while going out.

According to Navbharat Times, a team of Delhi Police, Forest Department and Wildlife, several security guards deployed by RWA have already reached the spot and efforts are underway to catch the leopard.

Additionally, a cage has been strategically placed in the area with the aim of capturing the leopard.

However, this is not the first time that the wild cat was seen roaming around in the NCR. Last year, residents of a housing society in NCR’s Greater Noida region spotted a leopard roaming free through the area. An alarm over the leopard spotting was raised by residents of Ajnara Le Garden group housing society.

Authorities also launched a search operation after locals spotted a leopard in Gurugram’s DLF phase 5 area. Reports of leopard sightings had triggered panic in the area.

Earlier in 2021, the Delhi Forest Department put out an alert after videos of a leopard being spotted in outer Delhi’s Najafgarh area surfaced.

The leopard was first spotted on January 27 and was also seen roaming around the streets the next and the day after near the Najafgarh drain.

Alerts were issued around Ghummanhera, Jharoda Kalan and other nearby villages asking people to not step out after dark and also to keep their pets inside.
