Rajasthan Woman Anju, Who Fled to Pak to Marry Facebook Friend, Returns to India

A woman from Rajasthan, who shot into the limelight after leaving her husband and two children to marry her lover in Pakistan, returned to her homeland on Thursday.

34-year-old Anju, who is living with her husband Pakistan national Nasrullah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, entered India via the Wagah Border.

After several rounds of interrogation by the agencies, she was allowed to travel to her home country, reported India Today adding that she was taken to Amritsar airport from where she will fly to Delhi.

Speaking to news agency, ANI, she said “I am happy.”.

Since July, Anju aka Fatima has been living in Pakistan with her husband Nasrullah, whom she met via Facebook. Pakistani media also reported that the 34-year-old woman has also accepted Islam.

The woman from Rajasthan tied the knot with Nasrullah in a local Pakistani court of a district and sessions judge in Peshawar in the presence of family members of her husband, police personnel, and lawyers.

Earlier, Anju herself appealed to the media to refrain from bothering her family and children back in India, as her return process was underway, and she planned to go back in the next few days.

WHO IS ANJU?

Born in Uttar Pradesh, Anju is married to Arvind, who is in Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi. The couple has a 15-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son. Anju’s husband Arvind said she told him that she was going to Jaipur but later the family came to know that she was in Pakistan.

Anju had travelled to Pakistan legally from India via the Wagah-Attari border.

According to an official document of the Ministry of Interior sent to Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi, the chancery was informed that it had been decided to grant a 30-day visa to Anju, valid for Upper Dir only.
