A Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) man named Anand Baudharani from the Settipalayam area recently got married at Eachanari Vijayanagar Temple. In an attempt to infuse novelty in the customs and traditions, the couple decided to hire a bullock cart to reach home. The videos of the same have now gone viral. The couple travelled by bullock cart from Eachanari to Anand’s house in Settipalayam. In the video, the couple is seen sitting on a bullock cart in their wedding dress, while holding the edges of the cart. Many have recorded it and uploaded the clip on social media. This unique trip after the wedding has now garnered the attention of the netizens.
This is not the first time that a bullock cart has been used by couples in weddings. In March this year, a similar incident took place in the Ganjam district of Odisha, in which the bride and groom – named Sarita Behera and Mahendra Nayak told their families that no vehicle would be used during their wedding. Mahendra came riding a horse in a procession to the bride’s place, while Sarita went in a decorated bullock cart to her in-laws’ place after the wedding. The couple decided to hire a bullock cart from a nearby village. Mahendra and his friends decorated the bullock cart with bamboo hoods.
In West Bengal, a young man named Biswajit Sarkar from Mamata Pally in Canning town brought his wife after the ceremony on his bike. He did this to pay tribute to their dating life after getting married. The couple used to ride on bikes while dating each other before marriage. As per the rituals of Hindu marriage, the vidaai of the bride is done after the marriage. The giving away of the bride is a special custom that signifies her farewell; and it also encourages her to begin a new life. When a father bids Vidaai to her daughter, he is actually sending her off to a new journey.
