Mumbai News: Previously, the police had received a threat via social media ahead of the ICC World Cup semi-finals between India and New Zealand
The Mumbai Police Control Room received a call late on Monday night threatening to kill prime minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and also bomb JJ Hospital.
The accused — identified as Kamran Khan — has been arrested by the police from Sion.
During inquiry, Khan said that he was associated with mafia leader Dawood Ibrahim.
Police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 505(2).
Just a few days ago, Mumbai Police on November 15 received a threat on social media ahead of the high-octane first ICC World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand scheduled at Wankhede Stadium.
The threat was made to Police over microblogging site X by an unidentified individual. The X user tagged Mumbai Police, sharing photos depicting a gun, hand grenade and bullets.
Mumbai Crime Branch detained a 17-year-old youth from Latur district over the threat.
This is latest in the series of threats Mumbai has been receiving over the past few months.
Earlier in September, the Mumbai Police had received a threat call stating that two Pakistani citizens were planning to arrive in the city with the intention of blowing up the iconic Taj Hotel.
However, after bomb detection personnel along with sniffer dogs searched the high-security complex, the call turned out to be a false alarm.
Then again in September, in another incident of PCR receiving bomb threat calls, a female caller informed the police of the presence of a bomb at Nepean Sea Road in Colaba and asked them for help.
Mumbai Police said that the same woman had called the PCR 38 times and had informed them about a bomb being planted.
And on the same day, another caller informed that a bomb had been planted in Kamathipura street no. 12
In the preceding weeks, Mumbai Police PCRs received several calls with bomb threats. On August 25, a 10-year-old boy had made a hoax call to the Mumbai Police intimating them about a bomb in a plane at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Further, on August 13, Mumbai police received a call from a person warning of a “100 kg bomb” in the financial capital.
Within two hours, the crime banch detained a man — Rukhsar Ahmed — for making the calls. Ahmed, was allegedly mentally disturbed and hence had made the call to the police, sources said.
