The death of two unmarried sisters in Mumbai, which police earlier suspected to be a case of poisoning by a bitter relative turned out to be a well-choreographed cold-blooded murder by their brother.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Ganesh Mohite, who is a clerk with the forest department in Palghar was fed up with his two unmarried sisters so he made a plan, inspired by a Bollywood movie ‘Drishayam’, to kill his sister and blame it on a relative.
For this purpose, he fed an idea into the minds of the investigating officers and his mother that the relative had poisoned their drinking water that his sisters consumed and died.
How Did Mohite Kill His Sisters?
On October 15, Mohite took his family for a Navratri event knowing that if he killed his sisters in Palghar, he would be the suspect but in Revdanda, he could blame the murder on a relative and he would be suspected due to their history of the dispute, the publication reported quoting police inspector Balasaheb Khade from the local crime branch (LCB), Raigad.
On the day of the crime, Mohite made instant soup for his sisters and spiked it with rat poison. After having the soup, he asked his mother to bring some drinking water which was outside in a container on the verandah and then left to participate in the Navratri event.
He then got a call from- one of his sisters Sonali, who told him that she was feeling uneasy. On the pretext of garba, Mohite deliberately reached home late and then took her to Alibag Civil Hospital, where she died on October 17.
By then, the other sister Sneha had developed serious symptoms and was shifted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe, where she died on October 20.
Mohite brainwashed Sneha, who survived till October 20, and his mother that their relative, with whom they earlier had a brawl due to some property dispute, had spiked the drinking water in the verandah.
How Police Discovered Mohite’s Master Plan?
On October 21, the case was transferred to the LCB and during the interrogation of the relative, the police found that they had installed CCTV cameras outside their house.
“We could not see anyone tampering with the water. The CCTV footage and the fact that the mother had faced no issues after drinking the same water made us realise that something was wrong. After investigation, we found out about the fight between the siblings,” HT quoted the IO as saying.
When the investigation pointed out at Mohite, the police searched his phone and found 53 search queries from October 11 to 14 on ‘poisoning’ like ‘sweet poison’, ‘smell less poison’ and ‘how many days does it take a person to die after consuming poison.”
What Led To The Murder?
Mohit got a job as a clerk in the Forest Department after his father, a forest department officer, died in an accident. A prolonged struggle began on who would claim the job in the father’s place, with the mother backing one of her daughters.
