Rajasthan Elections: BJP vs rebel in Chittorgarh? Sitting MLA denied ticket makes bold move

Rajasthan Assembly Polls 2023: BJP MLA Chandrabhan Singh Akya’s supporters have been protesting after he was denied the ticket from Chittorgarh seat by the party.

Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2023: In a significant development for the challenger BJP, its MLA from Chittorgarh assembly constituency Chandrabhan Singh Akya announced on Tuesday that he will contest from the seat against the party’s official candidate Narpat Singh Rajvi. Akya, who contested successfully from Chittorgarh twice in 2013 and 2018, did not get the ticket this time.

Akya’s supporters have been protesting after he was denied the ticket from Chittorgarh seat by the party, which chose to field sitting MLA from Vidhyadhar Nagar seat in Jaipur. Rajvi is former Vice President of India Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s son-in-law.

“I will file the nomination on November 2. I am not contesting the election, workers have to contest the election. On October 26, the election office will be inaugurated,” Akya told the media after a public meeting.

The BJP MLA has also filed a police complaint alleging that he received a call from an anonymous person threatening to kill him and his family if he contested the upcoming Rajasthan Assembly Elections. He complained to the police on Tuesday after repeated calls on Monday night and demanded security for his family.

Chittorgarh Sadar SHO Bhawani Singh said on Akya’s police complaint that the MLA has alleged that an unidentified person called him from different numbers and threatened to kill him and vandalise his office. The officer said that the matter is being investigated.

Akya has alleged that he was denied the ticket at the behest of the BJP state president for Rajasthan CP Joshi, who is an MP from the Chittorgarh parliamentary seat. The Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2023 are due on November 25.
