After denying him a renomination from his Vidhyadhar Nagar seat, which he has won five times, the BJP decided to field Narpat Singh Rajvi from Chittorgarh

Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje will be contesting the Rajasthan assembly elections from her traditional seat of Jhalrapatan, as the BJP named 83 more candidates on Saturday.

After denying him a renomination from his Vidhyadhar Nagar seat, which he has won five times, the saffron camp decided to field Narpat Singh Rajvi from Chittorgarh. This trigerred a backlash from a section of party workers.

The BJP leadership’s about-turn on the candidature of Rajvi, who is the son-in-law of stalwart leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, is being seen as a damage-control exercise after he angrily reacted and cited his family legacy to hit out at the party.

The list also includes Vishwaraj Singh Mewar, a descendent of Maharana Pratap Singh, who recently joined the BJP. He has been fielded from Nathdwara, which was won by veteran Congress leader CP Joshi in 2018.

Former state BJP president Satish Poonia has been fielded from Amber, the seat he represents at present. The name of the party’s leader in the Rajasthan assembly, Rajendra Rathore, also figured in the list.

With the second list, the BJP has so far named 124 candidates for the November 25 polls to the 200-member assembly.
