Ghaziabad College Row: 2 Faculty Members Suspended for Asking Student to Leave Stage Over ‘Jai Shri Ram’ Slogan

The two faculty members of Ghaziabad’s ABES college, who raised objections over the chanting of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans during the institute’s cultural fest, have been suspended with immediate effect, ABES Engineering College director Sanjay Kumar Singh said.

In a video shared on micro-blogging platform X, Singh announced that both the professors who reprimanded the student over the religious slogans during the event were suspended following a high-level investigation into the incident.

Addressing the matter, ABES Director Singh said, “We formed a high-level inquiry committee soon after the incident was reported and asked the panel to give its recommendation within 24 hours. On the basis of the committee’s recommendation, we are suspending the two faculty members for their inappropriate behaviour.”

What is the controversy?

A major row erupted after a video of a professor at ABES college in Ghaziabad reprimanding a student for saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during a cultural fest and directing him to leave the stage immediately, went viral on social media.

Another video from the same programme circulated showing another teacher on stage, warning students that no programmes will be organised if students chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Issuing a video statement on the incident, the Director of ABES Engineering College, Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, said, “A video has come to my cognisance where some students and faculty members were seen having a disagreement on a topic. An inquiry committee has been formed and action will be taken once the matter is probed. As far as the students are concerned, college authority will not take any action against them.”

Hindu Groups Demand Actions Against the College, Police Probe on

As the videos went viral sparking huge outrage on social media, heavy police force were deployed at the college. The police said they were investigating the matter and suitable action will be taken.

Meanwhile, several Hindu groups also demanded action against college authorities BJP leaders too are up in arms against the college authorities.

Meanwhile, another video of a woman claiming to be Dr Mamata Gautam, the suspended professor, surfaced on social media on Saturday.

In the video, the woman says she never objected to ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan and that the boy was removed from the stage because he was arguing. Highlighting her ‘Sanatani’ roots, the teacher says she is being targeted by an online mob.
