India vs Pakistan: More than 11,000 security personnel will be deployed in and around the city while several traffic diversions have been announced for October 14

Security and traffic arrangements in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad have been ramped up ahead of the high-octane India vs Pakistan World Cup match at Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. More than 11,000 security personnel will be deployed in and around the city while several traffic diversions have also been announced for October 14.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) also announced that the Ahmedabad metro services will be operational for an additional three hours to facilitate the commute for the spectators. The metro train services in Ahmedabad will be available from 6:20 am till 1 am on the five days when the World Cup matches will be hosted.

  • Several drones have been deployed near the venue. These drones can fly for over 12 hours and at 120 m height and will cover an area worth 5 kilometres around the stadium.
  • More than 11,000 security personnel, including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards among others will be deployed in Ahmedabad and at Narendra Modi Stadium.
  • Four teams of Chetak Commandos will also be deployed and each team will have an armored vehicle.
  • Gujarat has been instructed to be on “alert mode” and keep a close watch on anti-social elements as well as sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incident during and after the India-Pakistan World Cup cricket match.
  • Cybercrime teams, crime branch, economic offences wing and special economic group will also be deployed at the stadium.
  • Ahmedabad crime branch, Anti-Terrorist Squad and Special Operations Group will also be deployed to deal with anti-social elements and terrorists.
  • Four senior IPS officers of the ranks of the inspector general and the deputy inspector general along with 21 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officers will supervise and guide the personnel on the match day in Ahmedabad.
  • The Ahmedabad metro train services will be available to commuters from 6:20 am till 1 am on October 14.
  • Western Railway will run a Superfast Special Trains on Special fares between Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad to facilitate travel for the spectators.
  • Ahmedabad Traffic Police urged spectators to book their parking in advance on the ‘Show My Parking’ App for a hassle-free experience.
  • Ahmedabad Police urged social media users to refrain from posting, sharing or forwarding provocative or communal posts.
  • Some of India’s biggest singers and musicians including Arijit Singh, Shankar Mahadevan and Sukhvinder Singh will light up the stage in the pre-match ceremony.

The India vs Pakistan Cricket World Cup match is scheduled to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium located in the Motera area of Ahmedabad on October 14.
